The Cambs College Group is delighted to have been gifted a former dressage horse called Beethoven, who is a 15hh black cob, aged 21 years. He was given to the group by Eileen Ford in honour of her late daughter, Tina, a talented and dedicated horsewoman, and a well known dressage rider. Our thanks to Eileen for this wonderful gift.
Cambs College RDA group had a very special AGM and a presentation of awards to our amazing committee members, volunteers and riders by Deputy Lieutenant James Buxton, followed by a wonderful supper provided by Gay. It was a great opportunity for riders, their families and volunteers to relax and enjoy a lovely evening together. Sadly, Gay is retiring after 10 years as Chairman of the group and she will now be our President. Gillian will take over the role of Chairman and it will be a hard act to follow.
Here is Kirsty being presented with Volunteer of the Year Award for RDA’s East Region, this was awarded in recognition of Kirsty’s commitment throughout her first year with the group; bringing in volunteers, fundraising, helping at events and involving RDA riders in Cambridge University social evenings.
Congratulations to Lucy, who achieved her Grade 1 in Riding and Stable Management Proficiency.
Well done to Claire who achieved her Grade 3 Riding and Stable Management Proficiency and Grade 4 Riding.
The Cambridgeshire College Group that rides at the College of West Anglia on a Thursday afternoon 4-6 p.m. has spaces for a few more riders.
We take 15-25 year olds but it does depend on your weight and size.
We can have beginners or people of any standard up to competition level.
Why not come and watch a session and see if you would like to join us.
Riding is a therapy for everyone.

Hot! Hot! Hot! Saturday 13th July was the hottest day of the year. But all the RDA ladies and horses had driven up the day before and were all set when Finn, Fionn, Jodie and I arrived.
I had qualified at Oaklands on Victor – but only just, he was not really in the mood and wouldn’t trot. At Hartpury I was to ride Rolo – hopefully a more responsive horse…
The university of the West of England Hartpury campus was huge. There were 3 outside arenas for Dressage tests, indoor schools for vaulting and showjumping classes and the countryside challenge on the hillside far away! This was my first ever championships, I was nervous but quite excited. The dressage test class II was hard but Rolo was really performing well – Hartpury was new to him – and I was 4th. Some of the riders were paralympic level so I was quite pleased. Jodie, Fionn and Finn did really well.
Thank you Gaye, Kathryn, Tara and Gillian for doing the long drive to Gloucestershire and all your hard work! It was an amazing experience.

The Spring 2012 British Dressage Eastern Region para newsletter is available here. It has information on a number of up-coming events, two of which are happening at the College of West Anglia. All the events are open to RDA and Para Riders.
Thursday, December 8th was our last lesson of the winter term and the riders performed an excellent musical ride put together by Gay Redman. They also took part in some gymkhana races. Well done to all our riders! Afterwards, everyone enjoyed a well earned hot chocolate, mince pies and other goodies. Thank you to everyone who brought along such delicious food, and a big thank you to all our helpers. Happy Christmas!
Some snippets from the December 2011 RDA update.
- RDA has a range of Christmas cards and gifts available to order online.
- RDA has been chosen by The Daily Telegraph for its Christmas Charity Appeal.
- Changes to inheritance tax mean that individuals can donate more of their estate to charity without reducing the amount they leave to family and friends. Under the new legislation – announced in this year’s budget – people who leave 10% or more of their net estate to charity can benefit from a 10% reduction in inheritance tax.
