Cambs College RDA Group sweeps the board at East Region Competition

The team of 12 riders (and four horses) from the Cambs College Riding for the Disabled Group returned laden with trophies and rosettes following their success at the annual East Region Dressage competitions. The event was held on Sunday, May 20th, at Oaklands College, nr St Albans in Hertfordshire, where riders from 10 different groups in Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire and Essex were taking part. The Cambs College riders collected between them no fewer than five first prizes, four second prizes and numerous other placings.

Fourteen year old Finn Carter from Cambridge scooped an extra award – the trophy for the best overall junior rider: he won his Dressage class and came fourth in a strongly-contested Countryside Challenge section, riding Rolo, a coloured cob. “It was very exciting”, he said afterwards. Other Dressage winners were Fionn Ovington (riding Victor), Rebecca Lawes (riding Carrie), Abbey Brock (riding Jacko) and Eleanor Currington (on Victor).

Jenny Phillips Campbell was thrilled to qualify for the National Championships by gaining an impressive score of 68% in her qualifying Dressage class. With her horse, Carrie, a seven year old black cob from Ireland, she will soon be heading for Hartpury College, Glos, where the Nationals take place in July.

Members of the Cambs College Group are mostly young adults (from the age of 14 upwards) who have a range of disabilities both physical and intellectual. Their lessons take place once a week at the College of West Anglia, Milton, making use of the College facilities.

Class 5, 4th Anne Hunt (Rolo); 6th Frank Kerridge (Victor).
Class 11, 2nd Jenny Phillips Campbell (Carrie).

East Region Dressage Competitions:
Class 24 (juniors, led, walking), 1st Abbey Brock (Jacko);
class 25 (seniors, led, walking), 1st Rebecca Lawes (Carrie), 2nd Lucy Morrison (Carrie).
Class 29 (seniors, walk & trot, led), 1st Eleanor Currington (Victor), 2nd Emma Anderson (Rolo), 3rd Jodie Williamson (Jacko).
Class 30 (Juniors, walk & trot, unled), 1st Finn Carter.
Class 31 (seniors, walk & trot, unled), 1st Fionn Ovington (Victor), 2nd Craig King (Jacko).

Countryside Challenge:
Class 23 (seniors, unled), 5th Anne Hunt (Rolo).
Class 18 (juniors,led), 3rd Abbey Brock (Jacko), 6th Lucy Morrison.

Musical Ride

Thursday, December 8th was our last lesson of the winter term and the riders performed an excellent musical ride put together by Gay Redman. They also took part in some gymkhana races. Well done to all our riders! Afterwards, everyone enjoyed a well earned hot chocolate, mince pies and other goodies. Thank you to everyone who brought along such delicious food, and a big thank you to all our helpers. Happy Christmas!

RDA has a range of Christmas cards and gifts available to order online.

RDA has been chosen by The Daily Telegraph for its Christmas Charity Appeal.

Changes to inheritance tax mean that individuals can donate more of their estate to charity without reducing the amount they leave to family and friends. Under the new legislation – announced in this year’s budget – people who leave 10% or more of their net estate to charity can benefit from a 10% reduction in inheritance tax.

Fundraising Hike Success
